General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems ascending to spreading, freely branched, with stalked glands at least on the upper part, to 15 cm tall.

Leaves:
Alternate, linear, 1-5 cm long, 1-5 mm wide, entire.

Flowers:
Single or in pairs along and at the ends of the branches (stems branched so that the nearly stalkless flowers appear to be borne in the forks of the branches and in the axils of the leaves); corollas pinkish to white, 4-6 mm long, the short tube spreading to five lobes; calyces 1/2-2/3 as long as the corollas, bowed out and often forming purplish knobs at the sinuses, the triangular teeth 1-2 mm long.

Fruits:
Capsules, with 1-seeded chambers; seeds becoming sticky when moistened.
